Embodied Resource Guide for Support Workers Deck and Guidebook
This Resource Guide is both an accompaniment to our in-person classes, and as a tool you can use on your own when group practice is not available to you.
This deck is a collection of ‘greatest hits’ of our exercises and prompts. While these cues are usually given by us to a group of people in a room together, we also share these in class with the aim to have them available to us when we need them in our daily lives. Accompanying the deck is a small guidebook with more detailed information about the prompt on the cards.
One way we like to use this resource is as a ‘divination’ deck: shuffle the deck face down and draw a card. We hope you will experiment, share with friends, combine cards, follow the guidebook instructions or create your own map through these embodied resources. We hope to co-create practices of being together even when in separate places, weaving fibers of strengthening bonds between us and our care work.
The Embodied Resource Guide for Support Workers was made collaboratively with a cohort of care/support workers who have been gathering for movement classes together over the last few years: Shahir Krishna, Kennedy + Tavi, Sarah Nash Wong, Charlie Hodges, Romila Barryman, Zainab Alwarid, Lance Lim and Chris Vance. We danced together, and recorded our experiences through drawing, writing and embodied collaging, which created the deck you have in your hands.
